A handful of flights scheduled to land at Wellington Airport
this afternoon were cancelled or diverted as high winds
battered the capital.
Winds gusting 140kmh were forecast to hit Wellington today,
causing some bumpy landings at the airport.
A flight from Blenheim, scheduled to land at 1.50pm, was
cancelled due to the weather, and a 2.50pm flight from
Gisborne was diverted to Palmerston North because of the
winds.
One flight had to turn back to Auckland after it was not able
to land due to the wind, an airport spokeswoman said.
However, most flights were running as scheduled.
