Young English skier Laurie Taylor (13) scored the fastest
time on both grand slalom runs at the junior interfield ski
race series at Coronet Peak on Saturday.

with a combined time of 57.17 seconds.
He received a helmet donated by New Zealand women's
development team member Taylor Rapley (17).
Laurie was one of 142 young skiers taking part in the first
of six events designed to encourage young skiers, aged 5 to
14, at ski racing.
The majority of entrants came from Queenstown, Cardrona or
Wanaka, although there was a group from Northland.
Snowvision Foundation chief executive Fiona Stevens awarded
MacKenzie scholarships to Jackson Wells (11), of Cardrona,
and Jodie Llewellyn (12), of Arrowtown.
The $500 scholarships were training fee contributions for the
pair's ski racing endeavours next year.
Ms Stevens, a former Olympian and world top-30 slalom skier,
gave a special award of $250 to Hazel Wells (9), a skier the
Snowvision co-founder said showed promise.
Hazel had impressed after skiing for only four weeks.

the the games, which will be held next month, and the
benefits of the games for Otago, to children at the
prizegiving.
The next race will be held at Treble Cone, on August 1.
A further two scholarships will be awarded at the final at
Cardrona on September 13.
At the conclusion of the series, one skier will be selected
to attend a three-week training course in Switzerland.
