Skiers enjoying the first run on Treble Cone’s opening day
last Saturday had an impressive view of the inversion layer
covering Wanaka below.
Thousands of keen skiers and snowboarders enjoyed
brilliant opening day conditions last Friday and Saturday at
Cardrona Alpine Resort and Treble Cone respectively.
Snow sports enthusiasts were met with snow bases of more than
a metre, sunny and clear blue skies and fresh tracks for
many.
Both skifields were 100 per cent operational and snow
conditions left many patrons hailing the opening day
experiences as the best in years.
At Cardrona on Friday, the first people on the chairlift were
rewarded with a bottle of bubbly as they launched through the
official opening banner.
‘‘Everyone enjoyed a fantastic opening day.
‘‘We couldn't have asked for a better start to the 2009
season,'' Cardrona sales and marketing manager Nadia Ellis
said.
‘‘We've been steady every day that we've been open and we're
just preparing for the influx of school holidays now.''
Treble Cone also got into the celebratory spirit on Saturday,
with bubbles flowing and live music to mark the season
opening, Treble Cone spokesperson Antony Hansen said
