Treble Cone is reviving the "TC Triple Comp" - a
multidiscipline ski and snowboard event being held this
week-end.
Contestants will be trying to outdo one another with their
"cross-mountain" skills in the three categories of big
mountain session riding, a banked slalom race run, and the
big air finale on Sunday.
"We haven't held a big air competition up here for a while,"
Treble Cone spokesman Antony Hansen said"It was a great day
out for locals in the past, so we thought we'd better
resurrect the comp," he said.
The competition's three events are being held in different
locations at Treble Cone, near Wanaka.
The big mountain and banked slalom qualifications take place
in the Saddle Basin's Superpipe and Shooter on Saturday,
while a custom-built launch site halfway down the Main
Basin's Big Skite run will host the big air comp on Sunday.
Four qualifiers will progress from Saturday's big mountain
and banked slalom to contest the finals on Sunday, Mr Hansen
said.
A prizegiving to crown the "Triple Comp King and Queen of the
Mountain" will be held on Treble Cone's sun deck after the
big air event on Sunday afternoon.
