Athletics: Hundreds on Cardrona run

Oska Inkster-Baynes (20), of Wanaka, was overall winner of Saturday's Southern Lakes Half Marathon from Cardrona to Wanaka, which attracted 230 runners.

Inkster-Baynes, who was second last year, finished in 1hr 09min 7sec. Thijs Hubber, of Queenstown, was second in 1:15:40, followed by Adam Keen, of Dunedin, in 1:20:45.

Tanya Dromgool (26), of Queenstown, won the women's race in 1:25:37, followed by Sasha Antunovic (22), of Dunedin, in 1:25:44, and Anna Clare O'Connor (22), also of Dunedin, third, in 1:25:54.

In the 10km race, which drew 90 runners, Wanaka athletes Lorenze Kissling and Nicky Samuels broke the men's and women's open records with times of 34:21, and 34:24, respectively. Samuels, an Olympic triathlon hopeful, shaved three minutes off Shireen Crumpton's record.

The half marathon record for the men's 60 plus age group was broken by Peter Sarson, of Alexandra, in 1:27:54. The women's half marathon record in the age 40-49 category was also broken, by Joanna Anderson, of Invercargill.
