Competitors start in the Otago secondary school duathlon races at North Taieri yesterday.
About 30 competitors lined up for the races, which started with a run around a course on the plain, followed by a bike ride and another run.
Senior pupils ran 4km, cycled 16km and finished with a 2km run.
Junior and middle year pupils had a 2km run, a 11km cycle and a 2km run.
The senior boys event was won by Callum Ruddenklau, of Waitaki Boys' High School, who was third last year, and the senior girls event was won by Ella Cuthbert, of Bayfield High School.
