Athletics: Tahiti double for Turner

Otago Boys' High School pupil Liam Turner has continued his strong run of form to win the 800m title at the Oceania Regional Championships in Tahiti.

Turner (17) ran 1min 58.21sec to win the under-18 section of the event ahead of fellow Kiwis Gerard Hickey and King's High School pupil Sam Gouverneur (both 16).

Hickey ran 1:58.87 and Gouverneur finished in 1:59.55.

The Otago duo also dominated the under-18 400m race, Turner claiming the title in 51.32sec and Gouverneur coming in at 51.68 to take silver.

The next best was Hickey, who ran 56.68.

Turner, Gouverneur, Christopher Goodwin and Jarvis Hansen (both 18) also came third in the 4x100m senior relay in a time of 45.22.

Turner recently won the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m on the same day at the Otago Boys' championships earlier this year.
