About 350 runners from 30 local firms are expected to
participate in the spring business fun run and walk in
Dunedin next month.
The event will be held on a street circuit from the
Caledonian Ground on Monday, November 23 and consists of a
5km-walk-and-run course and a 10km-run course on Butts Rd and
Harbour Tce.
The 5km race consists of two laps of the course and there are
four laps for the 10km course.
The event is organised by Sport Otago.
Coachforce director for athletics Catherine O'Sullivan said
the event was designed to encourage and foster fitness and
teamwork within business houses and institutions.
"It is designed to keep people active," O'Sullivan said.
"Some people need a competitive goal to start a fitness
programme."
A team will comprise three or more permanent staff members.
Smaller businesses can include family members to make up a
team.
The business fun runs were first held in the 1980s, but they
lapsed during the 1990s and were revived by Sport Otago in
2002 when 700 runners participated.
Sport Otago also holds an autumn fitness fun run in March
each year.
