Rebekah Greene (Hill City), the find of New Zealand junior
women's middle-distance running this summer, has proved she
can foot it on the other side of the Tasman as well.
Greene (16), a talented 16-year old from St Hilda's
Collegiate, proved her class when competing for New Zealand
at the Oceania under-18 championships in Sydney last weekend.
She was runner-up in the 1000m in a personal-best time of
2min 45.99sec and used her speed to win the 3000m in 9min
53.14sec from former Otago athlete Anna-Lisa Uttley, who
finished second in 9min 55.30sec.
Greene capped off a successful championships when she was a
member of the New Zealand 4 x 400m relay team that finished
fourth in a New Zealand women's aged-16 record time of 3min
54.19sec.
The other team members were Emma Blake, Molly Creagh and
Hazel Bowering-Scott.
Tim Lawrence (Hill City), the other Otago member of the New
Zealand team, qualified for the 100m final with his heat time
of 11.26sec and was fifth in the final in 11.21sec.
Lawrence was also a member of the New Zealand 4 x 100m relay
team that finished fifth in 42.75sec.
