Cedric Jackson
No one from the New Zealand Breakers has been called upon
to join the three-point shootout party at the upcoming
Australian NBL all-star weekend in Adelaide.
Cedric Jackson is one of the leading three-point shooters in
the league, tied for fifth with Breakers team-mate Daryl
Corletto in three-pointers made with 17, but may not have
been included as he is starting the all-star game.
Corletto, who is shooting 38.6 per cent from beyond the arc
this season, seems slightly unlucky to miss out given he is
nailing his threes at a better percentage than Townsville's
Peter Crawford who has been picked.
The chosen five to contest the shoot-out are: Ben Madgen
(Sydney Kings), Stephen Weigh (Adelaide 36ers), Clint Steindl
(Cairns Taipans), Crawford (Townsville Crocodiles) and Oscar
Forman (Wollongong Hawks).
Kings star and early MVP candidate Madgen has made the most
three-pointers in the league this season with 22 and also
ranks second in three-point percentage of 43.1 per cent.
The man leading Madgen in three-point percentage, Adelaide's
Weigh, has been shooting the triple at a scorching 45.5 per
cent this year and will carry the hopes of his home crowd at
Adelaide Arena.
Taipans rookie Steindl has been a revelation this season and
is currently ranked fourth in the NBL in three-point
percentage at 40.6 per cent.
Long renowned as superior long-distance shooters, Crawford
ranks second in the NBL in three-pointers made (21) and
Forman is third-equal with 18.
The three-point shootout will see each competitor have one
minute to take five shots from each of the five designated
spots around the arc (25 shots in total). Each made shot will
be worth one point, with the exception of the last of the
five shots at each position, which will be deemed the 'money
ball shot' worth three points.
The top two shooters after the preliminary round will advance
to a head-to-head clash in the final for the title.
The three-point Shootout joins the slam dunk competition and
the celebrity and legends three on three game as supporting
events to the all-star game that will be played on December
22.
