Basketball: Breakers forward sentenced over bar fight

Breakers forward Reuben Te Rangi has been sentenced to 160 hours' community work and a $1000 payment for his involvement in a New Plymouth bar fight.

Te Rangi and fellow Southland Sharks players Leon Henry and Shea Ili were involved in a bar fight in late May.

Te Rangi's counsel had been arguing for a discharge without conviction in today's sentencing in New Plymouth, but that was declined.

The 20-year-old was sentenced to 160 hours' community work which will involve basic living skills training, and he'll also have to pay $1000 to the victim of the attack.

He'll also be under supervision for six months to attend and complete various programmes as per decisions from the Probation Office.
