The Magic could not contain a cool, calm and collected Varsity A side as the students triumphed 88-69 in a one sided men's A grade game on Saturday.

The first quarter proved to be the most competitive and tight quarter of the game, with neither team giving an inch as the Magic led 18-17 at the first break.

The Magic's slight advantage coming into the second quarter was soon squandered as Varsity A leaped ahead and Sam Colenut began to heat up. Varsity A led 52-37 going into the third quarter.

Colenut led all scorers with 26 points, and the Magic's Benoit Hayman scored 18 points.

The students maintained their offensive dominance in the third quarter and the Magic was unable to disrupt the rhythm of Varsity, which extended its lead to 74-51 after the third quarter.

The students sat on their lead in the final quarter and the Magic could not get fired up to make a push to close the gap.

The St Kilda Saints cruised to a 85-74 win over the Falcons. Tom Ingham scored 25 points for the Saints.

The Bombers bounced back after last week's defeat with a convincing 80-60 win over Varsity A2.
