Basketball: Ruske outstanding in drubbing by Ajax 1

Aleisha Ruske dropped 37 points on Varsity B in a one-sided women's winter league game on Tuesday night.

Ruske's haul, which included six three-pointers, was the backbone of Ajax 1's 90-28 trouncing of Varsity B.

Ajax 1 (2-0) has now outscored Ajax 2 (0-2) and Varsity B (0-2) 176-77 in its first two games of the winter league, and will take some stopping if it is to be denied an eighth straight title.

The match was as good as over by halftime, as Ajax 1 charged to a 47-15 lead.

However, Ajax 1 did not let up. Captain Janet Main poured in 26 points of her own as the deficit blew out to 62 points by fulltime.

The fourth quarter was particularly brutal, as Ajax turned on the after burners to outscore its opponent 28-6. In the night's other game, Varsity A (2-0) beat Ajax 2 58-46 on the back of a balanced offensive performance.

St Hilda's Collegiate (0-2), which again had a bunch of players away at national tournaments, was forced to default to Magic A (2-0), its second second loss by default to start the winter league.
