Amare Stoudemire signed a one-day contract with the New York Knicks, before announcing his retirement, ESPN reported.

Stoudemire retires aged 33 after 14 years in the NBA. Drafted out of high school by the Phoenix Suns in 2002, the 6'10" big man was named the 2003 NBA Rookie of the Year.

He went on to play eight seasons with the Suns, forming one of the league's most formidable line-ups through the mid-late 2000's alongside two-time MVP Steve Nash and forward Shawn Marion. In his most productive season he scored 25.2 points per game, while averaging 9.1 rebounds.

Upon being traded to the New York Knicks in for the 2010-11 season, he had a stellar first season in the Eastern Conference, again scoring in excess of 25 points per game.

However from there on in controversy and injury began to mar his career. In February 2015 he was waived by the Knicks and was picked up by the Dallas Mavericks, where he played for the rest of the season.

After becoming a free agent he signed with the Miami Heat last season, playing 52 games.

He finishes his career having been selected to the All-NBA First Team once and the All-NBA Second Team four times. He was a six-time All Star.
