Boxer Daniel MacKinnon has been discharged from hospital less than a fortnight after emergency brain surgery following a fight.

The 30-year-old Otorohanga man was taken to Waikato Hospital on November 16 after he collapsed following his light heavyweight title fight with Robert Berridge on the undercard for the David Tua and Alexander Ustinov fight in Hamilton.

He had emergency surgery there to relieve the pressure on his brain.

Waikato Hospital today said MacKinnon had been discharged from its neurosurgery ward.

The New Zealand boxing community had rallied around MacKinnon, who received numerous donation requests and messages of support from around the world.

MacKinnon's opponent Berridge wished him a speedy recovery last week.

"He is a true warrior and we are positive he will make a full recovery."
