Wladimir Klitschko has described New Zealander Joseph Parker as one of the best young heavyweights in the world.

In the midst of a training camp with Parker in Miami ahead of his title defence against Bryant Jennings on April 25 at New York's Madison Square Garden, Klitschko said Parker was a talented and skilful boxer who has the potential to go all the way.

"You know what, I think he belongs in the top five, top three maybe with newcomers Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and of course Joseph Parker," heavyweight champion Klitschko said.

"So I wish him all the best and I know he can do it. He's very talented, we've been sparring here for many days and I wish him good luck with all his achievements in his next fight."

Englishman Joshua and American Wilder have previously sparred with Klitschko, and the Ukrainian's trainer Jonathan Banks said Parker deserved to be mentioned alongside them.

"Keep in mind, Deontay Wilder is a bronze [Olympic] medallist and Anthony Joshua is a gold [Olympic] medallist - so if he can just be mentioned [with] those two, that's to let you know what kind of level that Joseph's on already," he said.

Klitschko, 39, who is preparing for his 18th title defence, said 23-year-old Parker, who stands 1.94m and weighs 106kg, was the ideal training partner.

"Parker's size is perfect and I like to have actual boxers competing in there when we spar, guys who want to become champions, guys who bring that attitude to the ring," he said. "We've had some intense sparring. He has given me great work, exactly what I need."

Parker, unbeaten as a professional with a 13-0 record including 11 knockouts, will next fight on June 13 in Palmerston North against an opponent yet to be announced. The fight, scheduled for 12 rounds, has proven to be a big seller, with most of the 51 corporate tables sold and general admission tickets proving more popular than expected.
