Cricket: CD v Auckland game off due to rain

The dreadful weather affecting much of New Zealand meant the HRV Cup cricket match between Central Districts and Auckland in New Plymouth was abandoned due to the saturated ground conditions.

Umpires Derek Walker and Phil Jones inspected the ground at Pukekura Park at noon and decided to call off the game after 24 hours of heavy rain in New Plymouth.

With further heavy rain forecast, there was little possibility of the ground drying sufficiently.

Central Districts also had yesterday's game against Canterbury in New Plymouth abandoned and the chances of play in Northern Districts' game against Canterbury in Mt Maunganui tomorrow look bleak.

Central head to a soggy Nelson to take on Otago on Monday and Auckland face Canterbury in Rangiora on January 3.
