Cricket: Otago steady after horror start to chase

Otago have recovered after a horror start and are progressing steadily in their quest for victory against Auckland in their Plunket Shield match.

After losing three early wickets, the Volts have moved on to 67 for 3 in their second innings at Eden Park outer oval, chasing 218 for the win.

At the wicket are Aaron Redmond on 30 and Nathan McCullum on 25.

Hamish Rutherford (0), Michael Bracewell (2) and Neil Broom (1) are all back in the pavilion.

Mitchell McClenaghan has two of the wickets and Chris Martin the other.

The home side have all-rounder Colin Munro to thank for enabling them to post a decent total after they were in some trouble at 118 for 5 in their second innings, leading by just 61 runs.

Munro belted six sixes and 12 fours as he swung his way to 118 before falling lbw to Jimmy Neesham this morning.

He received good support from Craig Cachopa (27) and Bruce Martin (32) as they held the Otago bowlers at bay for most of the morning.

Ian Butler was the best of the Otago bowlers, with 4 for 61, while Neesham, Neil Wagner and Nathan McCullum each bagged two wickets.
