Despite a maiden international century from Amy Satterthwaite
the White Ferns lost the second game of the Rose Bowl series
to Australia in Sydney today by four wickets.
After losing the toss and batting first, the White Ferns
posted 288-6 from their 50 overs as Sattherthwaite crafted
109, while captain Suzie Bates added 59 and Sarah McGlashan
hit a run-a-ball 51.
In pursuit of 289 for victory, Australia got off to a flying
start as openers Meg Lanning (72) and Rachael Haynes (70) put
on 131 for the first wicket.
Lanning needed only 53 balls for her knock that included nine
fours and two sixes as she took apart the White Ferns'
bowling attack.
The home side received decent contributions from most of
their batting order at the North Sydney Oval and only Morna
Nielsen (3-36) was able to make an impact with the ball for
New Zealand.
Eventually Sarah Coyte (51*) and Erin Osborne (15*) saw the
Australians home with 20 balls to spare.
The four-match series is tied 1-1. The next game is at the
same venue on Monday.
