Cricket: Otago recovers after shaky start

Otago has recovered from being 15 for two to finish at 181 for 4 on the first day of a Plunket Shield match against Central Districts, being played at the University Oval in Dunedin.

Aaron Redmond is unbeaten on 55 with Ryan ten Doeschate on 50.

Peter Trego, who collected one wicket for 19 runs in 10 overs, has been the pick of the bowlers for Central Districts, and Andrew Lamb took the other wicket.

Roald Badenhorst has been expensive, with 44 runs coming off his five overs.

Otago won the toss and chose to bat first.

Central Districts made an early breakthrough, with Jamie How picking up a fantastic catch off the bowling of Andrew Lamb.

The captain dived forward and scooped the ball up with his right hand, much to the dismay of Otago opener Hamish Rutherford (2).

Play was scheduled to begin at 10.30am but rain and ground conditions delayed the start until 3pm.

There are a minimum of 55 overs to be bowled.

The sessions will be from 3pm to 5pm and 5.20pm to 7pm.
