Otago batsman Jesse Ryder will return to the Black Caps after a two-year exile.

Ryder has been named in the New Zealand squad for the one-day international series against the West Indies starting on Boxing Day in Auckland.

The 29-year-old last played for his country in February 2012 against South Africa and has slowly returned to cricket after being viciously attacked in Christchurch in March.

Ryder's return to domestic cricket for the Otago Volts has been a successful one. In four Plunket Shield matches he has scored two centuries and two half centuries.

"Jesse gives us added fire power at the top of the order and he has a proven international record," selection manager Bruce Edgar said.
