Otago scored 204-4 from its 20 overs after Wellington has won the toss and elected to field first.
Opener Hamish Rutherford top-scored with 79 from 44 balls and was backed up by solid knocks from Neil Broom (47) and Ryan ten Doeschate (45 not out).
In reply Wellington managed 203-4 from its 20 overs with Grant Elliott top-scoring with 70.
