Scotland got back to winning ways with a convincing result over Nepal in a World Cup qualifying match in Queenstown yesterday.

The Scottish team won by 90 runs and was too classy for a Nepal team still finding its feet at this level.

Both sides went into the match after losing their first games of the qualifying tournament.

Scotland had lost by 17 runs to Hong Kong in Queenstown on Monday, while Nepal was beaten by 102 runs in Rangiora by the United Arab Emirates.

Once Scotland had tallied 249 for seven wickets off its 50 overs yesterday, it was always in the driver's seat.

Nepal never got going with the bay and lost wickets at regular intervals. It took until 30 overs had gone for the 100 to be reached and half of its batsmen were back in the pavilion.

The Scottish bowling attack shared the workload. Eight players bowled and wickets went to most players.

Only one player in the Nepal team managed to pass 30 and it was dismissed for 159 at the start of the 47th over.

The game looked doubtful early yesterday, when rain fell in Queenstown, but it cleared for the entire game to be played, though it started a few minutes late.

Scotland was asked to bat first after Nepal won the toss and it managed to get to a solid enough total through the effort of Freddie Coleman, who hit an unbeaten 64.

The Scottish side could have got into trouble near the end but Coleman teamed up with Safyaan Sharif for a 59-run partnership at more than a run a ball.

Scotland put on 80 runs in its final 10 overs, as the Nepalese bowling became ragged near the end.

Best bowling for Nepal came from opening bowler Sompal Kami, who took three wickets.

Scotland will play its final game in Queenstown when it takes on the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, while Nepal will take on Hong Kong, in Rangiora, the same day.

The final game in Queenstown will take place next Thursday, when United Arab Emirates plays Hong Kong next Thursday.
