Cricket: Ball dominates bat in all games

University-Grange 96 lost to Green Island 97/5 by five wickets.

Opener Jesse Simpson made a determined 41 for University-Grange but there was little else to get excited about on the scoreboard.

Simpson received minimal support and University-Grange was humbled for 96. Gregor Croudis bowled superbly for Green Island, taking four wickets for eight runs.

Ben Patston (21) and Scott Simpson (38) ensured the result would go to Green Island after its dominant bowling effort. Green Island chased the total down in 18 overs and won comfortably against a University-Grange side that was somewhat lacklustre on Saturday.

Taieri 73 lost to Kaikorai 78/1 by nine wickets

From the outset, the win looked inevitable for Kaikorai against Taieri at Brooklands. Kaikorai came out firing and ripped through Taieri's top order with ease.

Taieri was reeling at 21 for four before Dwayne Weir brought some resistance to the innings with a gutsy 21.

However, the Kaikorai bowlers were a class above and several them helped themselves to wickets as Taieri was dismissed for 73.

Kaikorai batsman Ryan Duffy was ruthless in scoring 52 not out and securing the win for his team. It took only 12 overs to knock off the dismal total.

Otago Boys' 116 beat North East Valley 69 by 47 runs

The schoolboys struggled throughout their innings, and the batsmen who mustered starts fell when they were desperate for a partnership.

They would have been dismissed for less than 100 if it had not been for a late flourish of runs from Blake Buttar-Scurr (18 not out). Keegan Harrison and Jamie Murley both claimed three wickets for North East Valley.

The small total ahead of North East Valley seemed achievable, but Otago Boys' had no intention of giving up. Wickets were taken regularly, though North East Valley was drawing closer to the total.

A tight finish looked on the cards until North East Valley's last five wickets fell for only nine runs. Sam Angus led the school team's attack with four for 27 off his 10 overs.

Albion 119 beat Carisbrook-Dunedin 97 by 22 runs

Albion batted first and struggled to post a decent score - a familiar theme at the weekend.

Chris Harris (28) and Nick Beard (29) were the significant scorers in an innings in which wickets fell at regular intervals. Tim McCormick (three for 39) did the damage for Carisbrook-Dunedin as Albion was restricted to 119.

One wicket led to another for Carisbrook-Dunedin when it was its turn to bat. Nobody scored a significant total as the Albion bowlers were relentless in defending their total.

Jamie Glenn was exceptional in taking six for 41 off his 10 overs and Beard took three for 20 as Carisbrook-Dunedin fell 22 runs short.
