Cricket: Eathornes star for Carisbrook-Dunedin

Taieri 107 lost to Carisbrook-Dunedin 108/5 by five wickets.

After being sent into bat in the premier competition on Saturday, Taieri made a relatively good start, but its opening partnership of 30 would be the highest of the innings.

The top order crumbled to 55 for six. Chris Ware and Tim McCormick were impressive, claiming five for 44 and four for 26 respectively for Carisbrook-Dunedin. Jack Hunter made a defiant 31 not out, but received little support.

Carisbrook-Dunedin sent in the Eathorne brothers to get the job done, and Nick and Sean batted their team into a winning position.

When they were dismissed, the middle order came out and swung away, losing a couple of cheap wickets. Rhys Phillips belted the winning runs in the 29th over.

North East Valley 190 drew with Green Island 147/7

Green Island managed to nab a few early wickets, but North East Valley was still scoring at a good rate.

Sam Tallott (64) and Ted Haggas (46) provided stability for North East Valley as they put on a vital 70 for the sixth wicket. Tallott was the last man dismissed with the score at a competitive 190. Blair Soper was the pick of the Green Island bowlers, finishing with figures of four for 59.

Green Island lost a wicket in the first over, but fought back through Ben Hitchcock (28) and Nathan Watt (18). Mark Joyce was the saviour for Green Island with 46 not out, preventing North East Valley from claiming the vital last wickets.

He had help from Russell Richie, who survived 60 balls for his unbeaten 18 as Green Island batted out 50 overs for a draw.

Albion 174 beat Kaikorai 121 by 53 runs

Kaikorai chose to bowl and Jackson Latham picked up an early scalp.

That brought Jack Harper (46) to the crease for Albion, and he and Tom Dixon (31) put on 72 before they were dismissed by Hamish Robertson. The offspinner bowled superbly for Kaikorai and deservedly finished with six for 44.

Kaikorai found it difficult to build partnerships and wickets fell regularly. Albion bowlers Michael Snedden and Daniel Ingham helped themselves to four wickets each.

A brave knock from Robertson (51) capped off a good all-round performance for him, but it was not enough as Kaikorai was dismissed well short of Albion's total.

University-Grange 239 beat Otago Boys' 183 by 56 runs

Opener Chris Beck (58) found the going easy as University-Grange reached 74 before the loss of a wicket. Jesse Simpson scored 53 and the tail scraped together some runs.

Otago Boys' fought hard, and it paid off for Josh Finnie, who had the excellent figures of six for 69.

The school team's innings started on the wrong foot, with two early wickets. New Zealand under-19 international Finnie backed up his performance with the ball when he posted 56 in an 83-run stand with Taine Bayly (30) for the third wicket.

Otago Boys' looked a chance until it lost the last seven wickets for only 67 runs, primarily because of the bowling of Chris Beck, who picked up five for 33.
