New Zealand have lost to Pakistan by six wickets off the penultimate ball of a warm-up match in Dhaka ahead of the World Twenty20 tournament.

Captain Brendon McCullum stood out with the bat, striking four sixes in his 59 off 45 balls as the Black Caps reached 145-9.

Pakistan responded with 149-4, having started brightly before a slow patch over the closing overs created a close finish.

Needing five runs to win off the last three balls bowled by allrounder Corey Anderson, Sohaib Maqsood struck successive fours.

Offspinner Nathan McCullum was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers, taking 2-21 off four overs, while Mohammad Hafeez (55) and Kamran Akmal (52) provided the bulk of Pakistan's runs.

McCullum's only support of substance came from Colin Munro (20 off 15 balls). Pakistan seamer Umar Gul claimed 3-16 with the ball.

New Zealand play another warm-up game against Australia in Fatullah on Wednesday before their opening match of the 10-nation tournament against England in Chittagong on Saturday.

They prepared for the tournament in Abu Dhabi, where they won practice games against English county teams Worcestershire and Derbyshire.
