Cricket: Albion to represent region

Albion will fly the flag for the Otago and Southland regions at the 20th annual national club tournament at Cornwall Cricket Club in Auckland this week.

Dunedin clubs have a proud record at the tournament.

Green Island won the title in 1998-99, 2004-05 and 2005-06 and shared it in 1999-2000 and again in 2001-02.

Albion will be joined by Suburbs New Lynn (Auckland), Pukekohe Metro (Northern Districts), Greytown (Central Districts), Eastern Suburbs (Wellington) and East Shirley (Canterbury).

Otago spinners Mark Craig and Nick Beard will turn out for Albion while New Lynn could be stacked with Black Cap Martin Guptill expected to make an appearance alongside the likes of Reece Young and Jeet Raval.

Former Otago player Darren Broom is set to star for East Shirley and other first-class players expected to feature at the tournament include Seth Rance and Ili Tugaga.

Albion plays East Shirley in the opening game today.

The final is on Sunday.
