A damp patch on the pitch yesterday condemned Otago to another day in the nets.

The Volts were meant to be playing Canterbury in two-day warm-up match in Rangiora but the opening day was abandoned because conditions were not suitable.

Some moisture found its way under the covers and left ''a wet patch on a length'', Otago coach Dimitri Mascarenhas said.

The bowlers' run-ups were also damp.

''It was just too wet to get on, which was unfortunate. It is just the way it goes.''

The team headed to the nets for a practice session instead and will return today for a one-dayer.

The exact format was to be confirmed, Mascarenhas said.

''We'll have a full day's cricket so we will get something. The sun is out now so, hopefully, it is doing a lot of drying right now. By all accounts the weather is quite good for [today].''

Otago will also play Scotland and Ireland in one-dayers in Lincoln later this week.
