Taieri has had little to celebrate in recent seasons but its young bowlers set the foundation for a breakthrough win at Brooklands No1 on Saturday.

Carisbrook-Dunedin 126 lost to Taieri 130 for four by six wickets

Rising quick bowler Jack Hunter returned the superb figures of three for 10 off eight accurate overs as Carisbrook-Dunedin was humbled inside 36 overs. Sam Kirk (two for 24) and Shelford Meads (two for 31) were also effective for Taieri.

Carisbrook-Dunedin never really recovered after losing Nick Eathorne in the first over, though there was a brave flurry from tail-enders Sam Sawers (30) and Tom Rutherford (27).

Taieri calmly and quickly set about the chase, led by opening batsman Toby Batchelor (31) and No 4 Jack Driscoll (33). Appropriately, Hunter (28 not out) was there when an overdue victory was achieved.

Albion 317 for seven beat University-Grange 131 by 186 runs

Otago recruited Roald Badenhorst for his bowling but the Volts squad member showed he can also wield a bat with style.

He guided Albion to a massive win at Brooklands No2 with a swashbuckling century, 121, as the club racked up a formidable total.

Badenhorst found a worthy ally in Jack Harper (82), and the pair put on 164 for the third wicket.

It was not a day to rejoice if you were a University-Grange bowler, though youngster Sam Peterson escaped with the decent figures of four for 49 from his 10 overs.

Chasing 318 always seemed unlikely, but University-Grange might have hoped to do a little better. It folded for 131 in the 37th over, with Anthonie Clement's 45 the only innings of substance.

Daniel Ingham (three for 17) and Harper (three for 20) were the best of the Albion bowlers.

North East Valley 229 for five beat Kaikorai 203 by 16 runs

Volts opener Ryan Duffy did his best to carry Kaikorai to victory in an entertaining game at Sunnyvale.

Duffy cracked 91 but did not receive enough support as Kaikorai's pursuit of 230 for the win fell short in the final over.

Isaac Gutschlag mopped up the Kaikorai tail to claim the figures of the game, four for 49 off 10, and Ted Haggas had three wickets.

North East Valley's innings had been steady rather than spectacular, with Jesse Simpson (58 not out) and Adam Miles (56) the major contributors.

Otago Country 95 lost to Green Island 96 for one by nine wickets

It was one-way traffic at Molyneux Park, as Dunedin powerhouse Green Island delivered a cricketing lesson to the home side.

Mark Joyce led the Island attack with four wickets for seven runs in just 3.4 overs, and Dion Lobb, Matthew Lobb and Russell Ritchie each claimed a brace as Country crumbled inside 24 overs.

In a frenetic reply, Green Island charged to victory inside 13 overs, led by Nathan Watt (39 not out) and Scott Simpson (27).
