Fraser Wilson and Blake Buttar played the starring roles as Otago Country partially spoiled Albion's mood at Molyneux Park.

Albion 173 lost to Otago Country 177 for five

Albion did not celebrate the result but still managed to claim the one-day cup after the first round.

Buttar had the excellent figures of four for 24 off 10 overs for Country as Albion's innings teetered dangerously at 90 for eight.

Humiliation was on the cards before Michael Snedden (44) and Blair Brown (43 off 40 balls) did a wonderful job at the tail of the order.

Country also struggled at first - the home side slipped to 35 for three - but victory was achieved, largely thanks to Wilson (78 off 98 balls) and Buttar (35), in the 46th over.

Taieri 157 lost to University-Grange 158 for six

Alex Fill produced a lovely double to guide University-Grange to victory in the wooden-spoon battle at Brooklands No 1.

Fill's 10-over spell included three maidens and produced three wickets for 24 runs as Taieri was held to a mediocre total after a promising (33 without loss) start. James Bishop also had three wickets for Grange.

Fill then played a classic opening role in the Grange reply, batting through the innings for an unbeaten 67 (130 balls) as his side quietly reached the total in the 48th over.

Green Island 136 lost to North East Valley 142 for five

Jesse Simpson capitalised on his bowlers' good work to blast North East Valley to victory at Sunnyvale.

Simpson completely dominated the Valley innings, smashing four fours and six sixes - including one to win the game - in his 84 off 87 balls.

Four of his team-mates fell for single figures before Andrew Sim (23 not out) played a cameo role in support.

Earlier, all six Valley bowlers were in the wickets as perennial champion Green Island had an uncharacteristic collapse.

Ant Harris' 41 was the only innings of note, while Keegan Harrison led the Valley attack with three for 36.

Carisbrook-Dunedin 139 beat Kaikorai 98

It was helter-skelter stuff at Brooklands No 2, where both sides scored at a decent clip but lost wickets too regularly to post a decent score.

Carisbrook-Dunedin scored at 3.81 an over before being dismissed in the 37th over. Tim McCormick rattled on 38 from 36 balls, and Kieran Eathorne scored 31.

Hamish Robertson (three for 24) was the best of the Kaikorai bowlers, all of whom had success.

Kaikorai went down fighting, in a manner of speaking, scoring at 4.11 an over before crumbling in just the 24th over.

Chris Ware led the Carisbrook-Dunedin attack with four for 33 and Rhys Phillips added three for 14. In Kaikorai's brief innings, Geordie Scott contributed 37 off 31 balls.
