Cancer-stricken New Zealand cricket great Martin Crowe is hoping to hit the pitch for a club exhibition match on Friday.

Crowe, who is battling a second bout of lymphoma, has been including in a President's XI for the match celebrating Cornwall Cricket Club's 60th anniversary.

Crowe's former New Zealand teammate Mark Greatbatch - president of Cornwall Cricket Club - will captain the team, which includes the pair's fellow 1992 Cricket World Cup players Andrew Jones, Rod Latham and Murphy Su'a.

Greatbatch, a memorable left-handed test batsmen who first played for New Zealand in 1987, said his team would face-off against Cornwall's "very successful" 1994/95 Premier team in a T20 match.

"I managed to round up a few of the old cronies so it should be a bit of fun," he said.

"The kids are involved during the game, middle of the innings and after."

The club's celebrations also included a champagne breakfast on Saturday.

Crowe, who found out in September he was no longer in remission, would play if he felt well enough on the day, Greatbatch said.

The legendary batsman, who was first diagnosed with lymphoma in October 2012, has completed one round of chemotherapy since September.

He is also trying a variety of alternative therapies to help him recover.

Crowe played 77 tests from 1982-95, scoring 5444 runs and 17 centuries at an average of 45.36. He held the record for New Zealand's highest individual test score of 299 runs for 23 years. It was broken by Brendon McCullum's 302 last February against India at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.

When his cancer returned, Crowe told family and friends he was staying positive about his condition, and had been spurred on by the prospect of watching the World Cup return to New Zealand. Crowe starred in the last World Cup here in 1992.

Friday's exhibition match is being played at the Cornwall Park Cricket Club at Cornwall Park. It is due to begin at 2pm.
