Cricket: Albion outclasses University Grange

Another Saturday, another defeat for University Grange.

Albion 209 for 7 dec beat University Grange 66 by 143 runs

The students have struggled to compete in the Declaration Cup, losing all four of their matches. To make matters worse, the club has topped 100 only once and fell short of that milestone again.

Albion posted 209 for seven declared from 44 overs but Grange did not get close, slumping to 66 all out.

Daniel Grimes got more than half the runs, whacking 37 from 46 deliveries. Otago pace bowler James McMillan and extras were the next highest contributors with eight apiece in a woeful innings.

Daniel Ingham (four for 18) and Dexter March (three for 31) did the bulk of the damage.

Matt McCall top scored for Albion with 57, while Jack Harper (34) and Daniel Duke (31) made valuable contributions.

Grimes took two for 20 and McMillan got through 10 overs and took one for 29. Callum Stuart picked up three wickets but went for more than six an over.

Albion is unbeaten after four games. Its match against Green Island in the last round shapes as the competition decider.

Green Island remains unbeaten in the Declaration Cup with a fourth consecutive win thanks to a six wicket haul from Dion Lobb.

Green Island 195 for 7 dec beat Taieri 98 by 97 runs

The Swamp Rats posted 195 for seven declared and easily defended their total. Lobb mopped up most of Taieri's batting line up.

He took six for 32 as Taieri collapsed to be all out for just 98. His wonderful 18 over spell included 10 maidens.

Bradley Scott was also tidy, taking three for 19. Only Toby Batchelor was able to offer much resistance for Taieri, scoring 32 from 116 deliveries.

Earlier, veteran wicket keeper batsman Ant Harris helped set up the 97 run win with 50 at the top of the innings. Marcel Mckenzie added 38 and Scott scored 36 not out from 29 deliveries.

Veteran seamer Michael MacKenzie took three for 67 from 18.5 overs for Taieri, and Tipene Friday two for 17, from seven overs.
