Cricket: Albion out to cap off silverware-rich season for club

The Albion clubrooms at Culling Park are already bulging with memorabilia, but some space might need to be made in the trophy cabinet later today.

Having already secured the Bing Harris Shield for dominance across all three competitions, with a win over Carisbrook-Dunedin last week, the Albion senior side heads to Logan Park today with the Declaration Cup all but secured.

Only a mammoth Green Island first innings of more than 400 and a subsequent capitulation from the Albion batting line-up for less than 125 could make things interesting, but based on Albion's recent form with both ball and bat, this seems extremely unlikely.

The Declaration Cup would add to a stellar season for the club across all levels.

The senior team won the One Day Cup (the first round of one-day games) and the Knockout Cup which means the side will travel to Auckland the week after Easter for the national club championships.

Only a second placing in the One Day Trophy (the second round) will prevent Albion from the perfect trophy-winning season, but the presence of the Bing Harris Shield in the clubrooms for the first time since the 1999-2000 season will more than make up for that.

A win over Green Island today would also ensure Albion would hold the Speight's Challenge Cup through to next season.

Albion's second grade side has already secured the Junior Bing Harris after sharing the one-day and twenty20 trophies and winning the Declaration Cup outright, while Albion Kilda was crowned third grade champion with a comfortable win over Brighton last week.
