Otago's batsmen worked out some rust in Rangiora yesterday, posting 264 for 12 in a warm-up game against Canterbury.

Promising all-rounder Josh Finnie top-scored for the visiting side with 72 and opener Ryan Duffy also impressed with 51.

Black Caps all-rounder Jimmy Neesham showed some nice touches during his 36-run cameo.

New signings Brad Wilson and Anaru Kitchen both missed out.

''There was quite a lot of rustiness amongst a number of our players,'' Volts coach Nathan King said.

''Most of our guys got to face 30 or 40 balls which was good. But that is still not long enough to start to feel comfortable at the crease.

''It is probably no surprise that the two guys who spent the most amount of time at the crease are the two guys who have been playing all winter in the UK.

''Ryan and Josh both looked more comfortable at the crease than any of our other batsmen.''

''Jimmy looked good at the crease too. He has not done a lot in the last few weeks because he has been crook. But he spent a bit of time in the middle and will certainly benefit from it.''

Otago left-armer Bradley Scott added 20 runs at No 11 but retired hurt after he took a blow on the hand. King said the injury was not serious.

''It is just a bruised finger. It became quite swollen ... so we decided to bring him in.''

For Canterbury left-armer Theo van Woerkom was impressive and leg spinner Todd Astle ripped through Otago's middle and lower order, accounting for Derek de Boorder, Nick Beard and Adam Miles.
