Cricket: Sri Lanka win toss, decide to bat

Sri Lanka won the toss and will bat in the opening ODI against New Zealand at Christchurch's Hagley Oval today.

New Zealand have omitted top batsman Kane Williamson, George Worker and Ish Sodhi from their squad, in Williamson's case taking a cautious approach towards a niggline knee injury.

Sri Lanka have left out spinners Sachithra Senanayake and Jeffrey Vandersay, batsman Kithuruwan Vithanage, seamer Nuwan Pradeep and allrounder Thisara Perera.

Of the 35 ODIs between the teams in New Zealand, the hosts have won 22, lost 11 and had two no results. New Zealand have won four of the last five. This will be the ninth ODI meting between the teams in New Zealand this year, and the third occasion they've clashed in Christchurch in the year.
