Cricket: Volts beaten by 65 runs

A poor start with the bat saw Otago suffer a 65-run loss to Canterbury in their One Day match at Molyneux Park in Alexandra today.

Chasing 228, the Volts got off to the worst possible start, losing both opening batsmen without scoring, in consecutive balls.

 


 

 

Hamish Rutherford (36) and Jimmy Neesham (32) tried to get things back on track, while Neil Wagner offered some lower order resistance with 37 not out. The hole proved too deep dig themselves out of however and the Volts were bowled out for 163 in 39.5 overs.

Earlier Peter Fulton scored 81 for Canterbury, who were bowled out for 228. Sam Wells took three wickets for 44 runs for Otago, while Warren Barnes, Bradley Scott and Wagner all picked up two each.
