Cricket: Blacks Hill wins low-scoring match

The rain which provided some welcome relief to the parched Central Otago region interrupted the latest round in the Vincent competition on Saturday.

Blacks Hill got up over the host, Cromwell, in a low-scoring affair on Saturday which was transferred to the artificial surface.

Blacks Hill batted first and got through to 133, with 35 from Cam Nicolson and 26 from Will Stuart.

Raj Singh, with three for 27 off his eight overs, and Ross Anderson, with three for 30, were the pick of the bowlers for the home side.

In reply, Cromwell was dismissed 20 runs short on 113, with 23 from Tony Gillespie and 18 from Blake Thompson the most significant contributions.

Angus Dykes, with three for 25, and Arthur Cohen-Chapman, three for 27, made scoring difficult.

At Molyneux Park, Queenstown Ballarat batted first and got through to 261. Kevin Loggenberg top-scored with 77 not out and was ably supported by Brett Anderson (63) and Kyle Paterson (53).

Joe Berkett (three for 51) and Jackson Smith (two for 50) were the pick of the Molyneux bowlers.

Molyneux could muster only 172 in reply - Jonathon Homer's 61 not out was the highest contribution.

The Maniototo-Albion fixture was called off due to wet ground conditions after some significant rain in the Maniototo.

There was only one game played in the Partridge Cup for the senior reserve sides, with Albion completing a 65-run win over Dunstan High.

The school side could manage only 67 in reply to Albion's 132.

Chris Hill scored 48 for the school team.

The game between Cromwell and Blacks Hill reserve sides was cancelled due to the conditions.
