Cricket: Croudis’ 141 from 78 sinks Taieri

Mauled. Battered. Eviscerated. However you describe Gregor Croudis' assault on the Taieri attack, it does not do justice to his remarkable innings at Memorial Park.

Taieri 162 lost to Green Island 166 for one by nine wickets

Perhaps the numbers sum it up best. The Green Island left-hander scored an unbeaten 141 from 78 balls in his side's nine-wicket win.

Taieri posted a modest 162 and Croudis basically chased down the target on his own, well, 87% of it.

Fellow opener Scott Simpson managed a small contribution. He scored 14 from 28 deliveries yet was part of a 115-run stand for the first wicket as Croudis blazed away from the other end.

It must have been demoralising for the bowlers watching Croudis skip down the pitch and loft the ball back over their heads.

He hit nine sixes and 14 boundaries - that is 110 runs in boundaries - and it was the kind of innings which gets you noticed. Just about everything came out of the middle.

The bowling was not that bad either, with back-up Otago seamer Jack Hunter leading the attack. He went for 59 off seven overs.

Josh Tasman-Jones top-scored for Taieri with 58 and featured in a 100-run stand for the fifth wicket with Hunter (46). Four Green Island bowlers picked up two wickets apiece, including Croudis, who took two for 28.

Kaikorai 267 for five dec beat North East Valley 144 by 123 runs

Kaikorai all-rounder Geordie Scott scored an unbeaten 100 from 74 balls to help his side wallop North East Valley by 123 runs at Bayfield Park.

Scott has been a standout for Kaikorai this season and produced another memorable performance on Saturday with a rapid century featuring eight boundaries and six maximums.

Matt Hunter helped set up the imposing total of 267 for five declared with a fine knock of 43 from 49 deliveries at the top of the order, while Josh Preston also impressed with 72 from 79.

Preston and Scott combined in 118-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Florian Schmidt was the most successful of the North East Valley bowlers, taking two for 42 from seven overs, and Keegan Harrison was tidy but went wicketless in his six overs with the new ball.

North East Valley found itself two down very early but rallied through Hunter Kindley (29), Tom Griffin (34) and Chris Beck (39).

But Kaikorai spin duo Hamish Robertson and Iain Robertson claimed six wickets between them to help wrap up the match. Hamish finished with four for 33.

Albion 92 lost to Carisbrook-Dunedin 93 for four by six wickets

Left arm quick Chris Ware helped Carisbrook-Dunedin snap a six-game losing streak with a six-wicket haul against Albion at Tonga Park.

Ware, who bowls a crisp clip, got the ball moving around and cut down the Eagles' top order.

He nicked out the promising Taylor Cumberland in the opening over of the game and promptly accounted for Stu Malthus, Daniel Duke and Mark Somerville as Albion slumped to 31 for four.

Tim Ford, who top-scored with 34, and Nick Beard (24) provided some resistance, adding 32 for the fifth wicket.

But Otago leg-spinner Rhys Phillips removed Beard and the tail had precious little to offer. Ware finished with six for 34 and Phillips with three for 27.

Birthday boy Brad Rodden picked up the other wicket and top-scored in the chase, whacking 34 not out from 32 deliveries, including three sixes. Two of them travelled quite some distance.

Duke was the pick of the Albion bowlers with three for 27.
