Cricket: Restructuring proposal turns four roles to five

Otago Cricket Association chief executive Mike Coggan has confirmed reports the organisation is considering making structural changes.

Staff have been informed of a proposal to establish five new roles at the expense of four current positions.

Coggan, who declined to be interviewed, cited financial prudence as the key reason for the proposed changes.

‘‘We are under financial stress and need to find solutions in order to meet our strategic vision'', he said in a press release.

‘‘One absolute imperative is that we invest the appropriate levels of human resource into our key areas of growth,'' he said.

Under the proposed restructure, the commercial manager and the marketing and events manager roles would be combined into one role. The role of business manager would be disestablished and the position high performance manager re-configured.

New roles would be established for a manager of performance and talent and a talent ID coach. A part-time role for the head of women's development would also be created.

It is also proposed the organisation reverts to employing a fulltime assistant coach for the Otago Volts.

The Otago Daily Times understands one of the key findings from the end-of-season review was that there was not enough coaching expertise around the team during away games.

Staff will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposal at meetings planned this month, after which a decision will be considered.
