Suzie Bates really does have the best work stories.

The White Ferns and Otago Sparks captain found herself rubbing shoulders with global football identity David Beckham at Wimbledon while watching Andy Murray defeat Australia's John Millman in the third round.

The 28-year-old is in England playing for Kent in the lead-up to the twenty20 Super League which begins later this month.

On a rest day between games she joined former England women's cricket captain Charlotte Edwards in the Royal Box at Wimbledon where she met Beckham and has the photograph to prove it.

Bates revealed to Fairfax Media how she managed to find herself in such a situation.

"It was probably one of the best days of my life,'' Bates said.

"She [Edwards] had been invited to the Royal Box at Wimbledon before but she turned it down because she thought she'd have cricket commitments in Pakistan.

"She got re-invited because someone must have pulled out, so I was in the right place at the right time!

"She had to take a guest and there I was in the Royal Box with David Beckham watching Andy Murray on Centre Court.

Bates said she was a "bit shy, to be fair'' but thought it was "quite cute'' that Beckham took his mother to the tennis.

It is hard to top that story but a day after Bates scored an undefeated century to guide Kent to a nine-wicket win against Sussex in a twenty20 match.

Meanwhile, former Otago coach and Black Caps bowling coach Dimitri Mascarenhas has been appointed coach of Cricket Australia's under-16 side.
