Otago Country will get its first run of the season when it
plays Dunedin Metro in a 50-over game for the Stewart
McKnight Trophy at the Oturehua Domain tomorrow afternoon.
The match will include a handful of past, present and fringe
Otago players.
Otago triallist Brendan Domigan will captain the Country
side, which includes Maniototo locals Brayden Hill, who
scored 122 not out in the second club match of the season
last weekend, and Cameron Nicolson, who picked up six wickets
in the same match.
Dunstan youngster Scott Paulin is included, as is James Pyle,
who will back up Domigan as the vice-captain.
Otago Country is without the services of former Wellington
player and regular captain Leighton Morgan, who has been
named in the Otago Volts squad.
Players set to feature for Dunedin Metro are Otago fast
bowler James McMillan and all-rounder Sam Wells, fringe Volts
batsmen Sean Eathorne and Jordan Sheed, and promising batsman
Darren Broom, the younger brother of Black Caps batsman Neil
Broom.
The trophy is named for Stewart McKnight, a patron of the
Otago Country Cricket Association as well as a life member.
He is a former player and coach of the Otago Country side and
is also the groundsman at the Oturehua Domain.
The match is an annual event which was initiated three years
ago as a tribute to McKnight, who is also a life member of
the Otago Cricket Association.
The match starts at 11am.
