Cricket: Ponting will seek follow-on for Pakistan

Australian skipper Ricky Ponting says he will look to enforce the follow-on against Pakistan on day three of the third Test at Bellerive Oval.

The tourists went to stumps on the second day in dire straits at 4-94 in reply to the home side's 8(dec)-519, after Ponting and Michael Clarke amassed a 352-run stand with knocks of 209 and 161 respectively.

Pakistan's top-order collapse and forecast late showers on Saturday and Sunday have prompted Ponting to seek what would be only his fourth follow-on for an opponent.

"We will after getting four wickets last tonight, but they've still got a couple of good batters at the crease," Ponting said.

"We're in the box seat for that now.

"And a lot of the reason for us batting to the tea interval (on day two) and getting around 500 was to hopefully make them follow-on again and give us two options."

Pakistan will resume with opener Salman Butt unbeaten on 34 and Shoaib Malik on four.
