New Zealand sealed the one-day cricket series against Bangladesh with a game in hand after winning the second match by five wickets here today.

New Zealand chased down the tourists' modest 183 for eight in the 28th over at University Oval.

They were guided home by Ross Taylor, who made an imperious 78 off 51 balls to hurry things along before holing out with victory within sight.

The likely outcome was evident early as Bangladesh teetered at 25 for five after being asked to bat first, with New Zealand immediately on top following their 146-run victory in the opening match.

Only a battling seventh wicket stand of 101 between Mushfiqur Rahim, who made a defiant 86 off 107 balls, and Naeem Islam, 43, gave the tourists a total to protect.

Newcomer Andy McKay bowled quick and straight to return fine figures of two for 17 off 10 overs while Ian Butler took three for 45 after taking some tap towards the end. The third and final match is in Christchurch on Thursday.
