Cricketer Sophie Devine (20) is hoping the White Ferns
can keep up the winning momentum and come out on top in the
one-day international against Australia in Queenstown today.
Devine said the team was in good shape after beating
Australia in two twenty/20 games.
"We were just looking forward to getting back into it after
being dealt to in Australia a little bit," she said.
Australia won all five one-day games against New Zealand in
Australia earlier this year.
The White Ferns play a one-day game in Queenstown today and
two in Invercargill on Saturday and Sunday.
Devine and the team spent yesterday morning training at the
Queenstown Events Centre.
"I've never played here before.
"You couldn't get a better background," she said.
She said the team had come along since its 5-0 "thrashing"
against Australia.
"We've learnt a lot.
"It showed a lot about our character to bounce back.
"I think Australia will come at us hard and we need to be on
top of our game to keep it going."
She hoped the team would win the Rose Bowl for the first time
in 10 years.
Devine is just 20 but has played 34 one-day internationals
and 15 twenty/20 internationals.
She was just 17 when she made her debut.
She is a right-arm medium-pace bowler and a right-handed
batsman.
Devine grew up in Tawa, Wellington and began playing cricket
at 4 years of age.
She has also represented New Zealand in hockey at the Junior
World Cup last year.
She is now in the development squad.
"I juggle both.
"I can't pick between them," she said.
Apart from her sporting career, she is studying Sociology at
Canterbury University.
"It keeps my brain ticking over which is refreshing after
sport," she said.
The White Ferns will play in the Twenty/20 World Cup in the
West Indies this year, and have a tour of England in 2011.
