Green Island overtook University-Grange in the Bing Harris
Shield standings on Saturday after cruising to victory over
Kaikorai, while Carisbrook-Dunedin belted Grange by 119 runs.
Taieri dispatched Pelichet Bay with ease and Albion blocked
out for a draw as it struggled to chase down North East
Valley's 239.
Green Island 279/4 dec beat Kaikorai 126 by 153 runs
Jordan Sheed notched an impressive 100 not out as he combined
in a 116-run second-wicket partnership with Scott Simpson
(49) and a third-wicket partnership of 104 with the
consistent Mark Joyce, who scored 69.
These large partnerships allowed Green Island to get through
to 279 for the loss of just four wickets before declaring.
Kaikorai never really got its innings going and it struggled
to a total of 126.
Matt Radford top-scored with 27 but the rest of the batsmen
battled to get into double figures.
Dion Lobb was the pick of the bowlers, taking four for 35 off
15 overs, and he was well supported by Russell Ritchie, who
chipped in with three for 24.
Carisbrook-Dunedin 229 beat University-Grange 110 by 119
runs
Carisbrook-Dunedin won the toss and elected to bat on what
appeared to be a belter of a pitch.
Carisbrook got off to a good start as the openers put on 70
for the first wicket.
Ash Simpson scored an aggressive 54 at the top and Jordan
Horrell scored 52 down the order to get the team through to
229.
Ben McCormick bowled well for Grange, finishing with five for
58 off 11 overs.
Carisbrook-Dunedin's Matt Lobb then bowled well to take five
for 31 and knock over the Grange top order.
Grange slumped to 12 for four and never recovered, eventually
folding for just 110.
Jason Hynes top-scored with a quickfire 21 not out.
Taieri 267 beat Pelichet Bay 121 by 146 runs
Ant Harris got the Taieri innings off to a rollicking start
with a hard-hit 41.
Dwayne Weir scored 53 and combined in a good partnership
through the middle with Michael MacKenzie, who scored a
patient 75.
Reuben Simpson finished the innings off with a quickfire 37
and got Taieri through to a challenging total of 267.
Regan Flaws was the pick of the Pelichet Bay bowlers, taking
three for 52.
Weir then turned destroyer for Taieri with the ball as he
took seven for 24 off just seven overs.
Pelichet Bay struggled to manufacture any partnerships, and
Dave Goddard top-scored with 39 as the Bay was bowled out for
a paltry 121.
North East Valley 239/6 dec drew with Albion 222/9
North East Valley batted first and got off to a good start
with notable contributions from top-order batsmen Simon
Badger (78) and Anthony Wilkinson (59), backed up by Ben
Miller (34 not out) and Jesse Ruwhiu (41).
These contributions got North East Valley through to 239
before it declared.
Albion started the chase positively, the top order playing
with intent.
Sam Ward made 66 and PJ Cairns top-scored with a fluent 71.
Once these two were dismissed, the wheels fell off the Albion
innings, and the last pair blocked out for a draw with the
score on 222, 17 runs short of the required target.
Jamie Murley bowled superbly, taking five for 48 off 21 overs
to keep the brakes on the Albion innings.
