Dunedin cyclist Alison Shanks has won silver in the
individual pursuit at the London World Cup track cycling
meeting.
Great Britain's Joanna Rowsell took the gold in the final
after making a strong start against Shanks and holding her
form as the Kiwi cut the deficit midway through the race. The
Briton eased away again in the closing stages to win in
3:32.364. Shanks finished just over a second later.
"I thought I would try to go out fast in order to get my nose
out in front,'' said Rowsell. "I knew I could bring it back
home in last kilo. I wound it up with four laps to go.''
Australian Amy Cure won bronze in the ride-off against
Lithuanian Vilija Sereikaite.
