Dunedin cyclist Reta Trotman was the supreme champion of the Southern Lakes Tour de Femme race near Wanaka at the weekend.
The race, organised by Highland Events, began with an 8.5km time trial circuit on Friday evening, in which Trotman and Wanaka athlete Simone Maier were separated by just one second.
The Crown Classic race on Saturday morning saw near perfect conditions with a slight tail wind going up the Cardrona Valley to the summit of the Crown Range.
Trotman and Maier took control of the race from the outset.
However, Trotman gained a comfortable lead on the way back down the valley, winning by 4min in 2hr 12min 59sec, with Ailsa Rollinson, of Wanaka, finishing third.
Also part of the event was a recreational ride up to the Cardrona Hotel and back, with Glenda Bruce, of Dunedin, and Ange West, of Queenstown, tying for first place in 1hr 25min 32sec.
The teams event was won by Team Lone Star, comprised of Nicola Simpson and Helena Reimer, of Wanaka.
