Otago United will have a sole naming sponsor for the 2011-12
national league season - Gran's Remedy.
The franchise has struggled to stay afloat financially in
recent years, and securing a major sponsor will be seen as a
positive step.
The foot powder company began in Dunedin in 1982, and now
exports its products worldwide.
"We are very proud of our strong ties to Dunedin and Otago,
and jumped at the chance to show our support for Otago
football and to help further develop the sport throughout the
region," Gran's Remedy chief executive Jim Reay said. "We are
hopeful that Southern football fans get behind this talented
group of guys."
Otago United spokesman Phil Cunningham said the sponsorship
deal was "great news" for the team and Southern football.
Otago gets to play its first game in the new Dunedin stadium
when it meets powerful Waitakere United on November 6.
