Football: National body announces another surplus

New Zealand Football has announced a surplus of $309,000 for 2012, the fifth-straight year it has posted a figure in the black.

The result was achieved despite a tight financial environment, continued investment in their development programme and increased international activity.

A total of 64 international matches were played last year, one of the biggest years of activity by New Zealand teams on the world stage.

The International Teams Activity Reserve - established in 2010 - funded $1.27 million towards all national teams, including the two teams who qualified for the London Olympics, the women's under-17 and under-20 sides attending their respective World Cups and the All Whites competing in the OFC Nations Cup and subsequent regional home-and-away series that saw New Zealand advance to the intercontinental playoff for a place at next year's World Cup in Brazil.

This has not impacted on New Zealand Football's development spend of $2.975 million, with the primary beneficiary being the continued delivery of the Whole of Football Plan. Of the total value, $1.3 million funding support was directed across all seven regional football federations.

"The result for 2012 is especially pleasing given the continued tight funding environment and the additional and extensive internal and international programmes New Zealand Football is committed to," NZF chairman Frank van Hattum said.

"This result supports New Zealand Football's continued commitment to sound financial management to build a solid foundation to support the game at all levels."
