Football: Intriguing clashes in Chatham Cup fourth round draw

Today's fourth round draw for the Chatham Cup threw up some mouthwatering ties although four clubs are still on tenterhooks awaiting replayed fixtures before knowing their opposition.

The three Waikato clubs who set a new benchmark for the region by reaching the last 16 now all face tricky away trips to Auckland on the weekend of June 29 and 30.

Ngaruawahia will be back in South Auckland to face Northern Premier League Onehunga Sports and Melville also face Premier League opposition in the form of two-time Chatham Cup winners Manurewa.

Hamilton Wanderers will travel to the North Shore to meet the winner of Glenfield Rovers and Birkenhead United and an all-premier league clash rounds out the Northern Region with Ellerslie or Waitakere City hosting Bay Olympic.

Olympic host Lower Hutt City in the Central Region's marquee clash in the capital while Palmerston North Marist's hopes of upsetting former champions Wairarapa United will be boosted by home advantage.

The Southern Region's two federations join at this stage but the luck of the draw still kept them apart for one more round before the national quarterfinal stage.

FootballSouth Premier League leaders Roslyn Wakari await the winners of the replayed match between traditional rivals Caversham and Dunedin Tech but the winners of Nelson College and Waimak United are away to Mainland heavyweights Cashmere Technical.

The four replayed third-round fixtures are a result of games abandoned on Sunday due to heavy rain around the country. All four matches are being rescheduled for this weekend with details for each likely to be confirmed later today.
